"Medicine is learnt by the bedside and not in the class"
(Sir William Osler)
It had been almost 10 months since we reached home for good. And it had been about 4 months ago we successfully entered 4th year for this medicine course, alhamdulillah. Time seems to fly without our knowledge. We grew older each and every second. Every time when we got up from sleep, we always forgot to thank Allah for giving us the opportunities to live in His world again..
Firman Allah:
Maksudnya: “Dan (ingatlah juga), tatkala Tuhanmu memaklumkan: “Sesungguhnya jika kamu bersyukur, pasti kami akan menambah (nikmat) kepadamu, dan jika kamu mengingkari (nikmat- Ku) maka sesungguhnya azab-Ku sangat pedih.”
(Ibrahim :7)
We started our clinical posting since September 2009 (as 3rd Year students)until now. As 4th Year medical students, we had to undergo 8 clinical postings where we were mainly posted to Melaka and Muar General Hospital. As for me and Haliana, we were in the same group (Group C), we had finished our Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology postings and now we are at the last 2 weeks for Community Medicine posting. The remaining postings are Orthopedics, Opthalmology, Ear,Nose & Throat (ENT), Medicine, and lastly the Surgery, which will be the toughest one, huhu. After that, we will have our P2S1 examination..
Every posting that we had gone through gave us thousands of impact and knowledge in our life. Let me tell you each one of them..
(^,~)PAEDIATRICS (4 weeks)
It was quite a tiring posting as we had to be in the hospital from 8 am to 4.30 pm. I like to deal with kids and i hope i can further my studies to become a Paediatrician, insyaAllah. But i know it will be a tough one. It may be some difficulties to handle such a young, small babies and chidren who suffered from any disease. It really needs your patience, smiles on your face so that the child will not afraid of you, soft touch to make them comfortable with you, and what i can observed during the ward rounds and out patient department (OPD) is your own unique skills to deal with them. This only can be obtained from practice. "Practice makes perfect"..(^^,)OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY (4 weeks)
This time i have to meet women with various reproductive problems (gynaecology)as well as to take care of pregnant women (obstetrics). This posting was very interesting because some of us maybe have the similar problems, hehe what i mean is one of the common problem like menstrual irregularities, and how to manage the problems in systemic way. I also had been given a chance to see caesarean section (this was the 2nd time, the 1st one was in Manipal).I could see the happy faces of mothers who had give birth to the child, and also some with sad faces for those who tried to get child when we ask about it during our history taking. In this posting, we had to use more of emotional role to get the rapport with the patients..=)(*,^)COMMUNITY MEDICINE (8 weeks)
A relaxing one, i can say. Huhu,we didn't have to go to the hospital for this posting. We only had lectures and presentation for the first 4 weeks. Sometimes, we finished our lectures earliar. For the last 4 weeks, we had to do our research project and it was enjoyable. My group done a research on "Association of Perinatal Factors with Autism in Malaysia". We learned on how to do research, starting from stating the health problems, searching for the relevant articles, forming the objectives, constructing the methodology, presenting the results, and lastly explaining the causes of the results and interventions that can be done in discussion..Huhu, i think its quite a bored entry. But, i just want to say that i really enjoyed clinical postings. May Allah give us strength to go through this pathway, insyaAllah..
